The Moose Jaw Board of Police Commissioners provides objective oversight of the Moose Jaw Police Service (MJPS) and serves as a conduit between the Service and the public. As a statutory body, the Board can look to The Police Act, 1990 to determine the extent of its jurisdiction, power, and duties.
In consultation with the Chief of Police, the Board establishes the objectives and priorities of the Moose Jaw Police Service. The Board will also approve the budget as prepared and presented by the Chief of Police, prior to its submission to City Council for approval.
The mission of the Moose Jaw Board of Police Commissioners is to strengthen the culture of community safety within Moose Jaw.
The Moose Jaw Board of Police Commissioners consists of: The City of Moose Jaw Mayor | Two city councillors | Four at-large members (Residents of Moose Jaw, other than members of council).
