Public Service Announcement – The Trespass to Property Act
In April 2025, the Government of Saskatchewan passed new regulations under The Trespass to Property Act.
The new regulations allow police to enforce trespass laws in businesses and public spaces. Activities such as public intoxication and drug use in public spaces or businesses are now prohibited.
Police will now be able to remove an individual, and if necessary, charge them with an offence under The Trespass to Property Act if they are engaged in the following activities:
- public intoxication;
- use of a controlled substance;
- threatening to cause harm to persons and property through verbal, physical, or other means;
- public urination or defecation;
- causing damage to premises or personal property located on the premises; and
- any other activity that constitutes an offence pursuant to the Criminal Code.
These new regulations are in addition to the ongoing Moose Jaw Trespass Prevention Program within our community. The MJTPP is a public safety initiative that allows Moose Jaw Police officers to remove Trespass to Property Act violators from commercial properties. This can be done without the need for a call-for-service or direct involvement from an owner or property representative after hours.
