Drugs/Firearm Seizure

Members of the Moose Jaw Police Service’s Criminal Investigation Section and Community Policing Division (CIS) have concluded an investigation into a 38-year-old male, who had a Canada-wide warrant for his arrest.

On December 13, 2023, at approximately 9:15 p.m., the MJPS initiated a vehicle stop on the 400 block of Caribou Street West. The accused was the passenger in the vehicle.

During the traffic stop, he attempted to flee Police on foot but was apprehended and arrested a short time later.

Police located and seized 56.8 grams of Methamphetamine, and $960 in Canadian Currency, on his person.

At approximately 5:45 a.m. on December 14, 2023, Police executed a search warrant at a residence on the 800 block of Monk Avenue, where it was believed the accused was staying while in Moose Jaw.

Within the residence, the following items were located and seized:

  • Sawed-off 12 gauge shotgun x1
  • Buck knife x1
  • 14 grams of Cannabis
  • 26.90 grams of Psilocybin
  • 66.80 grams of MDMA (Ecstasy)
  • 18 grams of Methamphetamine
  • 56 capsules of Concerta
  • 10 capsules of Xanax
  • 18.90 grams of Cocaine
  • 13 capsules of MDMA (Ecstasy)
  • Drug trafficking paraphernalia

As a result of the investigation, Justin Thompson, 38, has been charged with:

  • Possession of Cocaine, for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of Methamphetamine, for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of MDMA (Ecstasy), for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of Psilocybin, for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of Methylphenidate (Concerta), for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of Alprazolam (Xanax), for the purpose of trafficking
  • Unsafe storage (contravention of 117 (h) of the Firearms Act by having no trigger lock on gun and not having gun locked in a receptacle, container, etc that is difficult to break into)
  • Possessing a prohibited firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized
  • Possession of a loaded prohibited firearm
  • Possession of a prohibited weapon
  • Breach of firearms prohibition x 4 (for ammunition- .22 and 12 gauge)
  • Breach firearms prohibition x4 (12 gauge shotgun)
  • Breach of mandatory order of prohibition x 4
  • Possession of the proceeds of crime
  • Resisting a police officer x2

Thompson has been remanded and will make his first appearance in Moose Jaw Provincial Court on December 20, 2023
