Moose Jaw Police Service Swears In Two New Members
Soon enough, two new officers will be patrolling the streets of Moose Jaw.
On Friday, July 19, 2024, Daniel Heimbecker and Jackson Anderson were sworn in as Constables with the Moose Jaw Police Service.
The Honourable Brian Hendrickson, Judge of the Provincial Court of Saskatchewan, administered the oaths, while Moose Jaw Board of Police Commissioners Chair, Crystal Froese brought greetings.
In his closing remarks, MJPS Chief, Rick Bourassa spoke about the career that these two individuals have chosen to pursue.
“You’re now public officials and have shown us you’re people of character and integrity,” says Chief Bourassa. “We look to you as peacekeepers, problem solvers, crime preventers, and community builders.”
Daniel Heimbecker is from Regina and was hired in December 2023, and worked in our Communications Centre, as a Special Constable, while awaiting training. Heimbecker was then moved into the Forensic Identification Unit (FIU) to assist with various duties there.
When asked what it means to be sworn in as an MJPS officer, Heimbecker says it’s important to him to give back, help people, and set a positive example for his children.
“I know I have a long road ahead with police college and in-field training, but being sworn into a great agency like MJPS puts me one more step closer to that goal,” says Heimbecker.
He will begin his 21-week training program at the Saskatchewan Police College on Monday and will look forward to begin building those relationships with his classmates and instructors.
“Going through difficult and stressful situations as a group forms strong bonds and creates lifelong friendships. I think those relationships, along with the training will be very important throughout my new career as a Police officer,” Heimbecker adds.
Jackson Anderson was also sworn in on Friday. Anderson, originally from Calgary, Alberta, started his studies at Columbia Bible College in British Columbia. He then transferred to Briercrest College in Caronport, to complete his education and continue his athletic career playing volleyball for two years. This past spring Anderson graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Biblical Studies from Briercrest College.
Anderson says that the uniqueness and team aspect of policing is what prompted him to want to apply.
“Everyone cares about each other and is passionate about their work. Most importantly it provides the chance to serve the community in a variety of ways, and to have such a purposeful career is a great reason to want to come to work every day,” says Anderson.
He adds that he is looking forward to his new career as a Police officer within the MJPS.
“It means a lot to have this career opportunity with such an amazing Police Service. After graduating college in April, this was the only job I wanted and the only place I wanted to work. It’s a dream come true to be able to get started and represent a Police Service with such deep historical and community ties.”
Anderson will join Heimbecker at the Saskatchewan Police College on Monday, July 22, 2024, to start the 21-week recruit training program. They will then graduate from the Police College in December 2024.
